Problems with a Mercedes vehicle of any model is not the rule. They rarely happen, but over time things will crop up. One such thing is shaking and clunking with the front end.

Motor Mounts Gone Wrong

The Mercedes motor mount are made of rubber and this gives you that fine ride you love to much, especially when you’re out touring the beautiful Northern California landscape or trips out to the desert.

When Does It Happen

Sadly, around 100,000 miles, this beloved part wears out and then you’ll get engine shaking and clunking from the start up. Accelerating only makes it worse. You will definitely know something is not right with your Mercedes.

How to Avoid It

This is going to happen around 100k and there is no way to prevent it. However, if you’re taking your vehicle out in the very hot weather, such as trips to the desert in the off-season you’re going to ruin the rubber motor mounts very quickly. The rubber breaks down very quickly in heat. So, use a different car if you plan to hang out in the desert.

And while we’re talking about extremely hot weather, Mercedes are prone to overheating due to the heating deteriorating the harness wiring and the oil pressure switch. So, stay out of the heat. If you go to the desert a lot you’ll need a vehicle that will hold up to the extreme heat temperatures.

The Oil-Filed Motor Mounts

These are wonderful for the smoothness of your drive, just like the rubber mounts, if not better! However, these will also decay at about 100K. And as a bonus they leak oil all over the place when it happens.

Stay Ahead of the Game

When your Mercedes is getting to about 80,000 miles, ask us to check the engine mounts to keep ahead of this problem. Then you can replace them at a convenient time. It is an inexpensive part.
