You’ve dreamed of owning a Porsche for years and years. Is this the summer you’ll be speeding around the mountain curves of Hwy 101? Well, there’s a lot to consider first.

The Good of Owning a Porsche

Its smooth curves and great center of balance make driving a 911 a thrill. That low to the ground in a small car just feels great. There is a lot to love with this car from styling to performance. But …

Oh, the Porsche Problems

Given this is a European car, at least it’s made mostly in German and none in the USA, so it is going to be subject to tariffs. This means not only buying a new car, but when you need parts. And the Porsche loves to eat those parts.

The good news is that the newer Porsche models are better made, so they are no longer ridiculously expensive to purchase. On the other hand, you’ll going to pay a lot to buy one considering tariffs are immanent, along with an already high sales ticket price.

So, if budget is a factor then you’ll need to buy a preloved Porsche that is already sitting in the USA. And these older boxers and 911s have some very expensive mechanical habits – like $3k-$4k kind of expensive for common repairs. Prepare yourself for a $1500 water pump replacement, for instance. And that isn’t including any tariffs on parts!

Extremely expensive repairs can include:

Ignition coils
IMS
Regularly needed chain guard repairs

Then there’s the fun of getting rid of the rats, mice and squirrels that can easily set up shop in the body drains. These also make it very easy to flood out, so you don’t want to take it out when there are deep puddles on the road!

But It’s a Porsche!!

Yes, it is still an amazing Porsche. If you want to finally own one, we will be here for you at A1 Performance Auto Repair European Specialists. We will keep you on the road!
