Gas costs a fortune these days. While things are better than a couple of years ago, it is necessary to learn how to save gas while driving. By changing your driving habits just a little bit, you’ll save gas, do less damage to the environment and save a little cash.

Save Gas While Driving

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to save gas while driving. All you need to do is change a few simple things when you drive.

Ease off the Brake

When you’re coming to a stop, start slowing down sooner and then gently press the brake when you are near the stop sign. If you are driving a manual transmission, then downshift a couple of times before pressing the brake.

Drive Faster to Get to Speed

It doesn’t seem to make sense, but you should accelerate more to get to the desired speed. So, don’t be the tortoise, be the hare. You want to get to 50mph within 15 seconds. The reason is, fuel economy is better at faster speeds.

Errands

If you need to run errands, do the one farthest away first. Then your car will be fully warmed up for those closer start and stops. Even if you let your car sit parked for 30 minutes, it is still in warmed up mode, giving you much better fuel economy.

Ethanol

Your car gets far better gas mileage without the ethanol. You’ll pay more per gallon, but you’ll make up the difference in better miles per gallon.
