Mercedes-Benz, the epitome of luxury and sophistication, has hit a minor speed bump with over 143,000 cars and SUVs from the 2021-2023 model years. It has to do with a faulty fuel pump.
Of course, even the mighty Mercedes-Benz isn’t immune to the occasional hiccup.
The fuel pump fiasco could leave you stranded on the side of the road if overlooked. Here’s what you should know.
Engine Shutdown Spectacle
The engine of your Merc may decide to shut down while in motion, turning your joyful journey into a potential crash course. The culprit; the fuel pump!
So, what’s the issue with the fuel pump?
There’s a small component inside the pump, and it’s made from poor-quality materials. It may fail prematurely. This causes your Mercedes to lose power or even shut down.
Before the stall, you may detect the engine running rough while the dashboard lights go ‘disco party.’
Mercedes has submitted documents to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which say that they are aware of 2,031 customer complaints and warranty claims. However, they insist there are no reported crashes or injuries connected to the issue.
Mercedes-Benz dealerships are stepping up to save the day and will replace those fuel pumps free of charge.
The vehicles recalled include S-Class, E-Class, C-Class, CLS, GT sedans, and SL coupes. Others are GLE, GLC, GLS, and G-Class SUVs. The affected models were manufactured from June 1, 2021, to Nov. 30, 2022 period.
We advise our customers to stick their guns to the maintenance schedules. This helps catch issues before they become a headache or leave a big hole in your pockets. Yes, a small thing with your car that may cost a few bucks to fix can grow into a huge problem that costs an arm and leg if ignored.
