Finally, the VW Beetle is getting an electric powertrain to keep pace with the fast-approaching future of mobility. But this environmentally conscientious Beetle is ‘less flower’ and more aggressive in design and performance.

Here’s what to expect from the all-electric Beetle.

Design

While the fully electric Beetle pushes through a few changes to the design, such as having two seats only, it retains the beloved sporty theme of the VW Beetle. After all, it is still a Beetle at heart.

The E-bugster is only 30 mm wider than the original Beetle, and a new roof lowers the height slightly by around 90 mm to 1,400 mm. These changes give the E-Bugster a more sporty and dynamic appearance.

There are modifications to the front and rear bumper. At the front, the e-Beetle has C-shaped LED daytime running lights and boasts 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the E-Bugster’s sportiness and high-tech features take over. You’ll find sports seats, aluminum seat belt guides, and door handles. Pressing the start button floods the interior with a theater of white and blue light, which promises to make the pure ride bliss.

So far, the E-Bugster will come in stark white, which some people may not like.

Performance and Battery

The concept Beetle comes with a single motor attached to the front axle and a lightweight battery module that usually seats where the rear seats would be.

You can use the quick charger to juice up the E-Bugster 28.3 kWh lithium-ion batteries in under 35 minutes. This Beetle needs 10.9 seconds to dash from 0 to 60 mph and has a range of around 110 miles. While the range may seem low compared to other EVs, it’s sufficient for most needs. The majority of drivers rarely go past 100 miles daily.

The new E-bugster promises to keep the Beetle’s legacy alive as the transportation world transitions to electricity. This is good news for all ‘Beetlers’ out there!
